The health and health care needs of LGBTQ2+ persons are affected by a number of social, behavioural, and structural factors including deep-rooted stigma and discrimination and health insurance policy. A limited body of literature documents a number of health issues that disproportionately affect sexual minorities including mental health issues, substance use, and tobacco use. Being able to discuss ones sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression are integral to getting to know the individual with whom I have the privilege to assist in the strengthening of their health.
